C v parekh company is a trading firm, established in the year 1952 as a trading house for coal, coke, scrap iron, pig iron, etc. Procuring these industrial raw materials from eastern india(calcutta)region and supplying to the southern india(madras)region. In those days we were supplying coals in large quantities, full train loads, to various textile mills, heavy foundries, engineering industries, power plants. Later, in the 1960 and 1970, we became the largest suppliers of coal by rail as well as sea route. We owned our own vessels for transshipping coals from calcutta to madras. We were awarded large contracts from the electricity power house based in madras for ten consecutive years i. E. From early 1970 to mid 1980 and have handled over 350 vessels of 12,000-15,000 tons each which were sailing, in those days, from calcutta to madras. Our families in calcutta were owned coal mines, one of the best in madhya pradesh(india)mining about 3 million tons coal per year both open cast and underground. In the mid 1970 all the coal mines were nationalised by government of india, accordingly, our family lost all these mines. In the mid 1980, we had coal engineering and design division with german partners, dr lubrich of rhein braun consulting dusseldorff, west germany for modernising the nationalised mines through government of india. We had these mines under our project engineering division converting open cast from shovel truck operation to mobile crusher conveyor designs. On account of the government of india restrictions on remitting consulting fees in foreign currency, this division had to be terminated end of 1980. Since mid 1990, we started importing steam coal from indonesia and at present, concentrating on imported coals as india is importing more than 15 million tons of coal in addition to the coking coal for the steel plants, from australia during the last 7-8 years in huge quantities up to 8-9 million tons per year. We have excellent relations in the coal mining and energy related industries as well as coal consuming companies for meeting their energy fuels/power needs, with exposures in coal mining/power generating/cement companies and other large units with thorough knowledge on shipping logistics, etc. We are considered one of the specialists in various international contracts and have at times, arbitrated interpretation of contracts and avoiding legal disputes. At present, we are sourcing and supplying about two million tons of coal to various industries from indonesia, south africa and australia. We have concluded some successful deals between indonesia and the power stations in thailand. We are, now, actively penetrating to mediterranean markets as well as turkey. We have concluded contract for supply of 700,000 tons per year from 2000 until 2002 to larsen&toubro limited and we are in advance stage of negotiations for supply of coal to the extent of half million tons per year for other clients from south africa.
