Wanainchi Marine Products (Kenya) Limited was founded in 1970 and is strategically located within the Port of Mombasa. It has its own private fishing wharf capable of accommodating vessels up to 130 meters length and draft up to 12 meters.The company's original business was trading in dried seafoods and moved on to prawn then Nile Perch fillet processing until 1996 when a tuna processing plant was set up which is now its sole operation, producing high quality tuna loins for canneries in Europe. Wanainchi Marine has a manufacture under Bond License and its present facilities include: -Tuna loins processing, -High protein fishmeal production -Fish oil extraction -Complete shipping agency and related services, -Transshipment and stevedoring services, -Jetty service facilities with crane and forklift hire, -Water and shipchandling serviceWanainchi Marine Products is the only Tuna processing plant in the East Coast of Africa and had a capacity of processing up to 110 tons round fish per day. The process begins on receiving round fish either from vessels via its private Jetty or through reefer containers. The fish is then selected, cooked and cleaned until the final fillet (known as 'tuna lion') remains. This is then quick frozen and packed destined for European canneries all the while under strict HACCP guidance.Wanainchi Marine Products is a certified plant allowed to export to the E.U. and is recognized by Earth Island Institute as a company processing only Dolphin-safe tuna.
