Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) is classed as an alpha-beta alloy that is most widely used of high strength titanium alloys. The alloy combines its good mechanical strength and low density with excellent
corrosion resistance. This material is used in areas such as Aero-engine components, Airframe components, Marine equipment, Offshore oil and gas equipment, Power generation industry, Autosport
components and Medical equipment.
A major feature of Ti-6Al-4V is it’s fully heat treatable in sections up to one inch and used up to approximately 400°C (750°F).

Material Notes:
Information provided by Allvac and the references. Annealing Temperature 700-785. Alpha-Beta Alloy.
Applications: Blades, discs, rings, airframes, fasteners, components. Vessels, cases, hubs, forgings. Biomedical implants.
Biocompatibility: Excellent, especially when direct contact with tissue or bone is required. Ti-6Al-4V's poor shear strength makes it undesirable for bone screws or plates. It also has poor surface wear properties and tends to seize when in sliding contact with itself and other metals. Surface treatments such as nitriding and oxidizing can improve the surface wear properties.

Chemical Compatibility
Titanium forms a very tenacious surface oxide layer, which is an outstanding corrosion inhibitor. The human body and bodily fluids have no effect on titanium. Titanium is also compatible with
bone growth and is the most biocompatible of all metals.
