Ceramide is a kind of sphingolipid which is composed of long-chain bases of sphingosine and fatty acids. Caramide is a kind of phospholipid based on ceramide. It is mainly composed of ceramide phosphorylcholine and ceramide phosphoethanolamine. Phospholipid is the main component of cell membrane. 40%~50% of sebum in stratum corneum is composed of ceramide. Ceramide is a major part of the intercellular matrix and plays an important role in maintaining the balance of water in the stratum corneum.

application:

Skin moisture content accounts for about 18% to 20% of body weight. Skin moisturization and elasticity are closely related to the moisture content of the epidermis. Excessive skin moisture loss can lead to dry skin and even chapped. Imokawa and other organic solvents were used to remove the stratum corneum lipids. It was found that the skin was persistent (>4 days), and the scales appeared, and the skin electrical conductivity decreased significantly.

The skin components extracted from the cuticle of the epidermis were subjected to a local skin test under the same conditions to investigate which lipid component can affect the skin moisture recovery. It was found that topical use of ceramide can cause a very high increase in skin electrical conductivity, followed by cholesterol, free fatty acid and cholesterol ester.
