You unroll your awning every time the sun comes out and spend many hours relaxing or working under your canvas?
Opt for a 360g/m? solution dyed acrylic fabric. These fabrics have exceptional characteristics: regulation of heat and light from the sun, maximum protection from UV radiation, unbeatable
resistance to abrasion and tearing. All qualities that may be expected from a top of the range product.
For permanent fixtures, where waterproofing is the essential feature (for shops etc.) we recommend a solution-dyed acrylic fabric with a coating on one side (e.g. the 50 TT from
Dickson). This fabric combines durability of colours with excellent resistance to bad weather conditions.
If you use your awning frequently all year round it is better to choose a 300g/m? solution dyed acrylic fabric. This type of fabric is perfect for both professionals and the general public, with
its high-tech features and resistance being perfectly adapted to frequent outdoor use (long-lasting colours, water repellent and dirt resistant treatment, durability of fibres).
The 300g fabric (e.g. Dicksons Orchestra) is a guarantee of optimum protection against the suns rays and having a fabric that will last forever whatever the weather.
For a product that is a little more decorative and designed to extend your indoor furnishing, make your choice amongst the subtle and colourful patterns obtained by using the
jacquard technique that was first launched by Dickson (Opera range).
If you want to fit your blind or awning in a secondary residence that you only go to for a fortnight each year, opt for a decontextured fabric, which is a lighter weight version (around
270g/m?).
This type of fabric is less resistant and gives less protection from the sun, but will enable you to eat out on the patio and enjoy some relaxing moments outside with all the family.
Over the last decade several new types of fabric have appeared, with namely Sunworker? from Dickson. These extremely high-performance textiles combine synthetic fibres with high-tech coatings.
They enable heat and light to be controlled in a room. These fabrics are recommended for vertical blinds or conservatory blinds.
Amongst all modern synthetic fibres, acrylic is the best for outdoor use. It has excellent thermal insulation properties (a quality that is sought for in clothing).
As far as awnings are concerned, we recommend solution-dyed acrylic fabric. Colours are impregnated in the heart of the fibre at the production stage, which is not the case for other dip-dyed
fibres. Solution-dyed acrylic fabrics ensure long-lasting bright colours.
This is an extremely attractive fibre in terms of low cost, but wears badly when subject to UV radiation. Colours do not resist well to effects of UV light and the finish is rather plastic.
Mainly used for indoor floor surfaces.
Acrylic fibre is the best solution for outdoor blinds and awnings.
A synthetic fibre that is well known and appreciated for its resistance to tearing. Mainly used for clothing. In outdoor use, such as blinds and awnings, it is sensitive to UV light which quickly
reduces its initial resistance. It is therefore not recommended for long-term usage.
This 100% natural material was the ultimate material for outside awnings and blinds for many years. There were, however, two serious drawbacks with this material colours could not resist against
UV radiation and the fabric was liable to putrefy. Today, this fibre has given way to synthetic materials that are much more resistant and better adapted to Outdoor use.

Colours have a big influence on our well being and help create a cold, warm or temperate atmosphere. An awning fabric colours sunlight and has a direct influence as to how we perceive our
surroundings. A bluey shade will cool the tone of the light and enhance the feeling of freshness. A yellow colour will warm the tone of the light and give an impression of heat.
At noon on a sunny day the brightness can easily reach 50 000 Lux. An awning fabric gives shade from the light and depending on the colour can generate a value of brightness varying between 1 000
and 5 000 Lux which makes for a pleasant and well-lit environment.
In the summer season in France, solar energy received by the Earth can go over 1 200 W/m?, which is equivalent to having several radiators per square metre of ground surface. Depending on the
colour, an awning fabric can block out between 80 and 95% of the solar energy.
Awning fabric gives excellent protection against UV radiation. The degree of protection depends on the colour of the fabric chosen. Light coloured fabrics let more UV light through than darker
colours, but are still as effective as factor 50 sun cream (filtering more than 90% of the ultra violet radiation).
