Current Krell customers wont feel burnt by upgrade angst. Krell is offering a full value trade-up to existing Krell S-1000 customers. They can have thier older (but only by two years) preamp upgraded to S-1200 or S-1200U for the retail price difference, plus freight. The upgrade is performed at the Krell facility and includes a new power supply, motherboard, video circuitry, digital and analog circuitry, as well as a new faceplate and rear panel.
It gets mileage out of video, too, taking advantage of HDMI 1.3s 48-bit Deep Color support.

There will be two models: the $10,000 S-1200 and the $12,000 S-1200U (the latter includes more bells and whistles such as 1080p upconversion. The preamp is designed around a pair of blazingly fast dual-core 32-bit Crystal CS497004 DSPs. Digital signals are routed to 24-bit ESS Sabre DACS and every channel uses discrete current-based Class A, direct-coupled circuitry enhanced signal purity and bandwidth. The preamp mode bypasses all digital circuitry and routes analog stereo inputs directly to a balanced resistor ladder volume control.
