Wolof women in the West African nation of Senegal have honed their basket weaving skills through many generations, traditionally creating baskets from local
dried grasses and strips of palm fiber.
Today, Wolof women craft a growing variety of beautiful baskets using traditional technique with a modern twist. About 20 years ago, someone introduced strips of plastic from a deconstructed
prayer mat. The women adapted their baskets to include this new binding material, as it is far easier on their hands and brings a spectrum of colors to their fingertips.
Our Wolof lidded baskets are woven from a local grass called njodax and pure white strips of plastic. We've used these stylish storage baskets in every room of the home and as a
beautiful package for gifts and homemade treats.
