Large Cents coin

1824 Coronet Head Cent. PCGS graded MS64 RB. N-4, High R.2. A superior specimen, ranked as tied for finest known in the Noyes census, where this coin is graded MS65 and termed "virtually flawless." Described by Doug Smith in the 1984 Starr sale (where graded MS65) as follows: "Glittering mint red toning to brown; slight obverse kegging but altogether lovely. Tied for second finest known and definitely in the showpiece class. Lot 561, Newcomb sale."The color remains magnificent, nearly half red and showing stunning cartwheel. The few tiny marks Smith referred to as "kegging" are hidden below Liberty's head but are shallow and unimportant anyway. A natural depression is seen on Liberty's cheek and a tiny void is hidden inside star 5. A few little spots are seen, but the visual appeal is superlative. Few cents of this date have comparable color or surfaces, and perhaps fewer still could match the superb provenance of this cent. A "showpiece," and a star in whatever collection it graces.
