wildlife painting

Born and bred on the Zimbabwean savannah-veld, Gerhard became passionate about wildlife at an early age. His father's ranch was his hunting domain and from dawn to dusk he would roam the bushveld as a boy. Later he ran his own ranch and qualified for his Professional Hunting License. Although he did a lot of hunting he loved the bush and developed great respect for nature and wildlife. Gerhard always sketched his wildlife escapades and his sketches turned into paintings. At school he excelled at art and now in his twilight years, Gerhard has made his passion his business in Nelspruit.

Gerhard Kok's methods and knowledge...

Gerhard's knowledge of birds stems from the time he spent in the bushveld. His paintings, of a great variety of species, are very popular. His favourite medium is to paint with acrylics on leather, but he is quite capable in using oils or water colours. He has developed a unique method of framing his art-work using solid woods, mostly sleeper-wood. Gerhard uses the 'riempie' method or combination of natural fibres, such as sand, thorns, seeds, quills, etc. thus making each art-work unique. Commissions are welcome and his work can be viewed by appointment at your convenience, or at his studio in Nelspruit.
