picture Kohelet - Ecclesiastes

Remarks from the Artist:
While wrapping up this picture for a client, he commented to me: "I will put this picture on the wall in my study... But now I will really have to work hard!" While painting this picture I thought, time is a precious gift. Don't waste it.
King Solomon writes: "There is nothing new under the sun..." But new experiences are new! What is new today is experienced as old tomorrow.
If one truly desires to experience quality, don't look for "new" - look for old. Rediscover. Go over the same, for the quality that was missed.
When my work draws me too much away from the lives of my family, I take the time to reestablish contact with them. Rediscovering the lives of my family is quality.

The writting in this picture is the complete book of Kohelet (Ecclesiastes). The text starts at the upper right hand corner. The word "Kohelet" is darkened. A key phrase from the text is darkened and can be found seven lines down from the top of the hourglass: "There is nothing new under the sun." There are 28 times mentioned in the text. 14 positive ("a time to live...") and 14 negative ("a time to die..."). The negative times are written in the sand which has just fallen in the hourglass. The positive times are just about to fall.
