As in many of his paintings, the artist has given an ambiguous title. Two youngsters are sitting on a secluded beach. No swimming wear. One may presume they are alone and enjoying each others
company. Then, a ball comes rolling over closely to where they stay. The blonde boy seems quite disturbed by the event. A ball does not move by itself, someone has thrown it in their direction.
Intrusion by whom? In Greek, the ball is of female gender. Assuming the ball is a symbol, it could mean that a girl or girls are the disturbing party. On the other hand, a soccer ball is merely a
symbol of manly sport activity. Other boys then in the area? The mystery remains. The ball that came rolling over stands as a symbol. For whom? The onlooker will use his imagination to give his own
interpretation to title and content.
Pieter van der Wilt (born in Brussels in 1942 but living in Greece since 1965) has painted (recognizable) Greek landscapes with or without male nudes. Style is realistic. His paintings can be found
in Greece, Belgium, and the USA.
