In keeping with the haloed tradition of painting human figures going back to the dawn of civilisation, Preet rejoices in female figures. Her figures emerge as the colour floats on soft silk suggesting forms. The figures are shaped from the varied colour surfaces that present themselves before her imaginative eye. Hence the figures dont follow a regular pattern. In some works many faces emerges almost in kissing proximity and running into each other. In yet others the figure takes centre stage floating in a very colourful abstract landscape. The colours sing sometimes like the joyous freedom of a child. Yet in some other works the colours are pastel-soft, pensive and caressingly quiet.
Preet Khokar works in the na?ve style. She paints on silk cloth with textile colours. She creates interesting abstract spaces around her figures. There is the touch and feel of watercolour on her silk canvases. The effect is graded tonalities and random effects. This she brings about because of the special nature of silk. Silk does not absorb water as quickly as cotton and has different properties. The lustre of silk creates its own beauty.
