COMPRESSED AIR FILTERS

By adopting this once-a-year-practise, it will be seen that many a filter element is way beyond the time for replacement. The outer sponge can disintegrate and the filter itself can be saturated with oil and water. A long time period could have elapsed for filthy compressed air to enter the factory!

Maintenance staff depends upon the pressure differential guage mounted ontop of the filters to determine when the filter element is to be replaced. If the needle shows in the green, they think that the filter element is still good. I personally have not found this to be a reliable method. I suggest that the filter to be opened once a year and the filter elements to be physically checked for wear and tear.

What most owners of these filters not realise, is that the filter element needs to be replaced every 2000 hours of factory running time. In most cases that is about once a year.

End users of these filters normally buy them when a "crisis" develops because of too much water and oil observed in the compressor lines. They install the filters and the problem is solved . . . . . . for now!

The most common type has a 5 to 25 micron filter element. This type is mostly used as a very basic and "crude" watertrap for condensed liquid in compressed air pipes. This is the filter mostly used for air tools and general applications. This filter is not suitable for critical applications where almost dry compressed air is required.Spraybooths, instrumentation, pneumatic equipment, laser cutting applications or any machine requiring almost dry air, needs a far more advanced filter.[Only the installation of a compressed air dryer after a coalescing filter will deliver dry air]  What we offer for such applications is: -  COALESCING FILTERS FOR FILTRATION FROM 1 MICRON TO 0.01 MICRON-  ACTIVATED OR OIL REMOVING FILTERS FOR OIL VAPOUR.  For most critical applications, the installation of an inline coalescing filter is sufficient. If it is important that oil vapour smaller than 0.01 micron must also be removed, the installation of an oil removing filter is a must.We can supply both type of filters from 6mm NB to 250mm NB pipe size.
