Ozone is the most effective of all known disinfection agents used in the treatment of pool water . It is obtained by physical separation from the oxygen in the air , and breaks down again after reacting with organic materials and bacteria into oxygen . As part of the din-o-zon process , ozone ensures the killing off of micro-organisms and the oxidising breakdown of undesirable organic substances in a safe and environmentally friendly way . Since with a din-o-zon system it is produced directly at the point where it is to be used , and then only in the required quantity , this eliminates all the usual risks associated with the transport and storage of chemicals.
