MS FILTER INC. has developed and tested a new Multi-Stage Filtration process that effectively treats raw water with high turbidity, algae, and color without the use of pre-treatment chemicals or complex filter backwash procedures. The process is designed for smaller systems ranging from 20 to 2,000 in population.

The Multi-Stage filtration process is based around a slow sand filter. Slow sand filtration is a proven treatment process which in the past ten years has been gaining popularity due to its inherent simplicity of operation. Typical slow sand filter designs, however, are limited in application to good quality raw water sources. In general, acceptable raw water conditions for the conventional 'slow sand' process are:

Low Turbidity
Low Color
Low Algae Count

Therefore, this has precluded its use in many smaller communities which could benefit most from its operational simplicity. The Multi-Stage Filtration process overcomes limitations while retaining the passive simplicity of slow sand operations.
