Conpads are unique products developed by Stockwell. These conductive grounding pads are constructed from silicone sponge rubber and a thin layer of electrically conductive carbon filled silicone rubber. Conpads were originally designed for protecting solid fuel rocket motors. These specialized pads were designed to serve two functions. The first was to protect solid fuel rocket motors from static discharge and the second function was to cushion motor housings against impact and vibration. Conpads are known for their long term ESD protection in rugged environments.
Electrical Grounding Pads
Electrical grounding pads may be made from a variety of conductive materials such as carbon filled, silicone, neoprene, or blended EPDM. The cushioning of the polymers and the carbon fill, allow
these static dissipative pads to perform the dual function of impact protection and static grounding. Electrical grounding pads may also be called static discharge pads, electrostatic discharge
pads, or static dissipative pads.
The S470-62-CON, S480-62-CON and S418-62-CON are product codes for conductive coated silicone sponge materials in soft, medium and firm grades. Silicone sponge rubber can not be compounded and cured to be electrically conductive, so Stockwell developed a conductive silicone coating process that is applied to the exposed surfaces. Parts may be coated on just the faces or the entire part may be coated for ESD management.
ESD Gaskets
Stockwell offers a variety of materials that may be used to make custom ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) gaskets. Typically a carbon filler is used to create the conductive path. Materials such as
SE65-CON conductive solid silicone, SCR7020-CON conductive solid neoprene, and R-4503 blended EPDM sponge are available to be cut into custom ESD gaskets.
Electrically Conductive Pads
The most common application for electrically conductive pads is for . The polymers for these electrically conductive pads typically have a high content of carbon which gives them their conductive
characteristic. Stockwell also makes custom grounding pads using a proprietary coating process. The conductive coated silicone sponge is soft and compressible, while the silicone allows for higher
operating temperatures than other polymers.
Electrically Conductive Gasket, Custom Electrically Conductive Gasket
It is common for Stockwell to manufacture dual function gaskets such as electrically conductive gaskets being one of them. The conductivity of the gaskets is usually achieved by filling the polymer
with conductive material, such as nickel graphite, silver plated aluminum or conductive carbon, etc. The level of electrical conductivity in the gasket depends on the type of filler used, silver
being the most conductive and carbon being the least. Gaskets made from these conductive filled polymers can be used for EMI and ESD management as well as environmental sealing such as dust and
moisture gaskets. Stockwell can provide electrically conductive gaskets die cut or waterjet cut from pre-formed sheets or roll goods and can also compression mold custom conductive gaskets.
