Seal Flushing Plan 53C A plan 53C is a pressurised piping system with an external reservoir that contains a limited amount of fully de-aerated clean barrier liquid. The barrier liquid is re-circulated by a pumping ring in the seal chamber. It is typically used with pressurised dual (double) seals where the pump (suction) pressure is frequently fluctuating over a large pressure band and where the barrier pressure must follow this pressure to avoid an excessive P. The barrier fluid provides cooling and lubrication for the inner and outer seal. The units are pressurised by an internal piston that is directly connected to, thus actuated by, the pumps product/pressure. The piston conveys the pump (suction) pressure to the barrier liquid, yet by a reduced contact surface to increase force, subsequently pressure. Thus the barrier liquid pressure is increased by a certain factor, usually around 1.2. Heat is removed by a the reservoir itself or an extra heat exchanger. For those applications where a pumping ring is not available or would offer an insufficient flow, has available magnetically driven seal liquid circulation pumps that can be incorporated.
