Energy Recovery Ventilators:

Constructo HRV: Constructo is state-of-the-art ventilation technology that is ideal for new residential construction or renovation projects where available space is limited because it is 20% smaller than comparable units. The Constructo is available with horizontal or vertical ports (factory-configured) and is simple to install and easy to maintain. The Contructo can be upgraded to an energy recovery ventilator (ERV) with a simple swap of its core. (call 866-875-4386 for pricing and info)

Solo HRV: The Solo is a very popular choice and one of the best heat recovery air exchangers (HRV) of its category, Solo air exchangers deliver an exceptional level of indoor air quality and excess humidity control.  Featuring a robust polypropylene core, the Solo provides mid-size homes with fresh air all year and retains heat in colder climates for improved home comfort.  Optional filter upgrades are available to boost the filtration level while versatile main or optional wall controls make it easy to manage excess humidity and air flow throughout the home.

Locate the fresh air intake away from driveways and laundry and furnace vents.
Install a supply inlet (dedicated inlet or heating register, if connected to forced air) for each bedroom and one for each common area.
Install a return outlet in each high moisture area such as the kitchen, utility room and bathroom.
Return outlets (pick up points) should be within one foot of ceiling and 10 feet away from an oven or cooktop, as vaporized grease could clog the energy recovery core.
Keep duct runs as short and straight as possible.
Use smooth, round ductwork when possible.
Insulate intake/exhaust and any ventilation ducts in unheated spaces and seal all joints.
Install a drain to catch any condensate, if required.

Heat Recovery Ventilators:

General Design Considerations for an ERV or HRV Ventilation System
The following tips are suggested to improve performance:

Energy Recovery Ventilation
Heat Recovery Ventilation
Installing a Home Ventilation System
HRV and ERV ventilation air exchange systems can be installed in an existing home, as well as a new home, and is an integral part of the heating and air conditioning system. HRV and ERV systems can be utilized with any forced air system equipped with a blower and duct system. It can also be used with non-forced air systems (floor heat coils, for instance) as an independent system.

ERV vs HRV
To better understand the difference between an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) and a HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator), click the following links:

The solution is heat recovery ventilators (HRV) and energy recovery ventilators (ERV). These mechanical ventilation systems use fans to maintain a low-velocity flow of fresh outdoor air into the house (incoming air stream) while exhausting out an equal amount of stale indoor air (exhaust air stream). Fresh air is supplied to all levels of the house while stale air is removed from areas with high levels of pollutants and moisture.

Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) and
Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) Systems
For the past two decades mounting evidence suggests that dependence on the natural exchange of air between the indoors and outdoors through air infiltration and exfiltration may not be sufficient for good moisture control and indoor air quality. It also has become increasingly obvious that traditional ventilation methods, like opening a window or use of a common bath fan, are not providing adequate ventilation. A properly designed and installed ventilation system is the key to positive moisture control and will help ensure a healthy indoor environment for the occupant.
