KLS carries a 2 oz fabric with high oxygen and water pass though rates, and good quality weed resistance.
Weed barrier is installed by cutting an X in the fabric where a plant is located; poke the plant through the X, and folding the fabric back up to the plant stem. With that in mind, you can see that it would be important to have a weed barrier that lets water and air though easily yet still keeps the weeds down.
Weed Barrier should be used under all stone mulch to keep weeds down. It is not always used under bark mulches. Not all fabric is the same. Good quality fabric is determined by it's ability to keep down weeds verses how well it lets water and oxygen through. While a really thick impermeable permanent weed barrier may do a great job at keeping weeds down, it may not allow any water or oxygen through to plants and roots of nearby plants. So there is a tradeoff of susceptibility to getting some weeds though and how good the material is for letting plantings develop properly. There are two common types of weed barrier produced one has an irregular fibrous look to it. The other is more of a fabric-patterned weave. We carry the fibrous type since it tends to have better oxygen and water pass-through rates.
