Then ARITA province became the most famous centre of fine porcelain in Japan and the word of "ARITA" became to mean the highest quality porcelain of Japan. As ARITA porcelain was exported through Dutch East India company to Europe from IMARI port, it was sometime called as IMARI or old IMARI. Even today, it has been keeping the reputation of being the most famous area of ARITA porcelain is generally classified into three genealogies - say old IMARI style, KAKIEMON style and NABESHIMA style.
ARITA PORCELAIN was originated in the year of 1616 by a Korean Immegrant Lee Sampei, who discovered the clay for white porcelain in ARITA area (located at the west part in Kyushu island of Japan) and successfully made the white porcelain there. In the beginning of 17th century, Japanese potter, Sakaida Kakiemon living in the town of ARITA succeeded in producing a very colorful designed porcelain which was an epoch - making at that time.
