Christian Bauer GmbH + Co. is a manufacturer of ground precision vanes, rotors and housings for vane pumps for the common rail diesel system. The rotor contains multiple vanes which slide in radial slots. The rotor and outside casing (housing) are eccentric. The vanes maintain contact with the casing by centrifugal force and pressure (spring loaded).

• The spring characteristic (linear, positive or negative) can be engineered to a large extent by means of changing the disc spring properties (dimensions, adding slots on inside or outside, stacking, etc.)
• Very slight spring deflections can be achieved by use of single springs.
• Using disc springs in series, spring deflection increases, without materially affecting the forces involved.
• They can be combined into groups of serial and parallel order in the same stack for special applications.
• Disc springs show a symmetrical build-up of forces around the rotating axis, with this symmetry being maintained throughout the lines of the spring equally.
• They show a circular, symmetrical transmission of forces in the exact direction of the spring axis - this being directly in contrast to actions of coil springs.
• They permit the use of the smallest possibleworking area - this being notably in contrast to the space required to accommodate the "dead windings" of a coil spring.

Applications with disc springs in use

This is the manufactured specification that the disc springs have to conform to, such as dimension tolerance and quality requirement. Group 1 and Group 2 springs are manufactured without contact surfaces, whereas Group 3 springs are manufactured with contact surfaces. Contact or load bearing surfaces improve the performance of the disc spring, particularly when used in spring stack assemblies.

Group 3 Material thickness > 6.0 - 14mm

Group 2 Material thickness 1.25 - 6.0mm

Group 1 Material thickness < 1.25mm
