The pictures cannot do justice to these crystals. They reflect all the color spectrum of the rainbow with a worm amber glow. Our chandelier looks like it was taken out of the Amber Room, dubbed the Eighth Wander of the World, a room made of amber, gold leaf and mirrors, presented as a gift in 1716 by the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm I to the Czar of Russia, Peter the Great.

Our company is an Authorized Swarovski Distributor and we buy the crystals directly from the factory in Austria. Because Swarovski makes and stocks only few STRASS crystals in Aurora Borealis, we need to special order them, in large quantities from the Austrian factory. This is the only chandelier with STRASS AB bobeches and also is the only one with a cup and saucer bobeches: flat bottom STRASS AB bobeches and scalloped crystal bobeches on top.

In 1956, Daniels grandson Manfred Swarovski worked with Christian Dior to perfect the process of coating the crystal with an almost imperceptible layer of metal to give the stone a rainbow sparkle called Aurora Borealis, the crystal used in our unique chandeliers. In 1977 Swarovski introduced a new material, Cubic Zirconia that perfectly imitates the diamond. 

Daniel Swarovski founded Swarovski Crystal in 1885. He perfected a patented precision faceting machine that cuts the pure crystal at angles that reflect the whole light spectrum as no other crystal in the world. Even in the dark, the crystals can capture the faintest source of light, amplify it and reflect it like no other crystal. In 1913 Daniels sons Wilhelm, Friedrich and Alfred perfected the formula for flawless crystal. Since then, Swarovski crystals have been used mostly for jewelry and high fashion.

This patented Austrian Crystal is the only certified optically pure crystal in the world, highly polished, precisely cut and guaranteed to be over 30% lead oxide. Each facet of the cut crystal reflects an intensive color spectrum, the fire and brilliance of which is impossible to reproduce. The crystals have an invisible coating that repeals dust. Each piece can be identified by the STRASS signature, laser engraved inside the crystal, as a guarantee of authenticity. All the bow ties connectors are gold plated.

There is no drawing or blueprint and there is no apprentice. Mrs. Hansen starts with an empty frame and using her unique prowess is creating something that she envisions at that moment. So many times, half way through the process, she changes her mind, strips the frame of all the trimmings and starts all over with a new idea. Thats why it takes several weeks to make one chandelier. Therefore, even in a series of chandeliers like Maria Theresa Queen of Bohemia series there will be no two chandeliers perfectly alike. Each series is limited to 50 chandeliers that arrive with a Certificate of Authenticity bearing a serial number and a Swarovski Certificate of Authenticity. Once the 50 models in that style are completed, they will never be made again, a new design series will begin. Not only that her Trade Marked designed of Maria Theresa chandelier is unique, but also the trimmings are Certified Swarovski STRASS Aurora Borealis crystals, the only chandeliers in North America, and as far as we know in the World, made with the most expensive and exquisite crystals made by Swarovski.

Mrs. Hansen specializes in Louis XV, 1710-1774, interior design and Maria Theresa, 1717-1780, style chandeliers. Maria Theresa was the Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Bohemia, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia, Holly Roman Empress Consort, Grand Duchess of Tuscany and Duchess of Parma and Placenza. Besides her high education, in her youth, Mrs. Hansen was exposed to and befriended Austro-Hungarian nobility, as her Great Grand uncle George Pomutz before her, a lawyer for the Austrian Imperial House, who emigrated to America, fought in the Civil War with the Iowa Volunteers, became a Brigadier General and later the American Consul General to Russia.
