Instead of a miniscule capacitor to hold the charge generated, this device actually has a battery that does not leak the charge over time as quickly. All shakelights I have used only have usable light for about 30 minutes. When cranking, the light charges at 1 W per minute. Also, cranking a magnet that generates a centripetal force and no start / stops is way more comfortable than the vigorous shaking required to move the magnet in shakelights. Love the fact that you get two hours of light out of one minute of hand cranking. Plus I love the option of one bulb for low-light or three bulbs for maximum lighting. It's small enough to easily fit in glove box of car or in your coat pocket!
