Light Emitting Diodes, commonly referred to as LEDs, are very small electronic light sources. They are available in a variety of colors including red, amber, green, blue, & white. LEDs are
commonly seen as colored indicator lights on electronic equipment such as stereos. White LEDs use a blue LED coated with a phosphor, or combine a red, green, and blue LED in a single
package. Unlike many other light sources that produce colored light by using a filter placed over the lamp, LEDs produce "true" colored light in narrow wavelengths within the visible
spectrum. LEDs are commonly found in traffic signals, exit signs, and signal lights on some trucks and buses. As their efficacies increase and the technology for producing white light
improves, they will soon find their way into a wider variety of architectural lighting applications.
