1940s Whiting and Davis Alumesh Bag Whiting and Davis began manufacturing mesh bags as early as 1910, but it wasn't until the roaring '20s that they really started cranking out lightweight, swingy little bags for jazz babies, and kept production going strong with innovative designs through the decades. This wedge shaped enameled aluminum mesh bag has a look and feel like a beaded bag, but its lighter in weight and more fluid than beads. The loop shaped frame and chain-link handle are made of ivory plastic, with a chunky oversized clasp. The bag is lined in navy faille with a single slip pocket. Measuring about 11" wide by 6" high with a 6" drop on the handle. Very minor wear to some of the mesh and slight discoloration to the handle, but really doesn't compromise the bag. Otherwise, its in excellent condition. $230
