After earning a university degree in Chemistry, Nimet Varli turned to her first and greatest lovethe creation of fine ceramics.
She is THE FIRST WOMAN EVER to professional produce ceramics in the long history of Kutahya.
Ms. Varli has created the world's largest ceramic plate, measuring 120 cm in diameter.
In 2002, she was named "Artist of the Year."
Her works are uniquefeaturing bold colors, intricate designs, and fine detail.
Thousands of tiles produced here line Turkey's Fabled mosques.
The very special white clay found here, the magnificent colors developed here, and centuries of tradition in the craft assured Kutahya lasting fame.
Overshadowed in early times by Iznik, Kutahya gained her well-deserved place as a favorite of the Ottoman Sultans as Iznik went into decline.
World-famous for her ceramics, the city has produced ceramics since the times of Ancient Greeks and Romans.
