Vulkolan is produced by the hot casting process by a number of specialised films. Its hardness can be varied by changing the ratio of the raw materials used to produce the reaction mixture, which is cast manually or by machine into open moulds. With their good tear and propagation resistance, solid tyres made from vulkolan are virtually immune to cuts and tears. Their load-bearing capability is up to 21/2 times greater than that of solid rubber tyres of equal size. Being less hard than all-steel wheels, Vulkolan tyres are also less likely to damage sensitive floors.
