OK, guys. I don't have one of these to sell. I've never even seen one, except a single machine for sale on eBay. We do know now that it truly was sold for a short period by Sears, and I do have a
manual for one. This started a controversy that, I think, is over now. This is presented for speculation only.
The question posed is why an unknown Craftsman 109 series lathe appears to be modeled on an Atlas Mk 2. This is Craftsman 109.21280, which would lead one to believe that it followed the very well
known 109.21270. The 109 prefix clearly identifies a Double A product, not Atlas.
The picture below is an Atlas Mk 2. The product manual for the 109.21280 does not contain a picture of the lathe, but three drawings, the carriage, headstock and tailstock. These drawings appear
after the picture.
I would very much like to hear from an owner of the 109.21280, or anyone who has direct knowledge of this machine.
I have also cut and pasted my initial query to the group on this machine after the last drawing.
