Packaging Machines

The L-80 Horizontal F/F/S Machine with Allen Bradley Controls produces horizontal pouches from 4" x 6" to 8" x 20" at speeds of up to 80 packages per minute (4" x 6" to 16" x 20" at speeds of up to 40 packages per minute). Operating speed is the same for both conventional and zipper bags. Pouch configurations include plain pouch, pouch with zipper on long or short side, header card and/or seal, hole punch for rack display, and labeling of printing (foil leaf and non-contract) applied anywhere on the front or back seamless panels. The L-80 features handling of fragile product such as cookies and crackers. Because a forming tube is not necessary, the machine's drop height is only 12 inches, reducing damage to fragile product by a factor of 5 or more. The machine automatically adjusts to what is being fed so that unevenly running or intermittent materials will run at their fastest speed. Because the machine provides a folded top, the package is more aesthetically pleasing than a cross seal with a cut-off. Pressure-sensitive labels can be applied to the web before the pouch is formed, assuring a more accurate placement than when applied after forming. In addition, full front and back panels without back seam are available for label placement and printing graphics. A two-compartment bad with a seal separation can be made, with the bad mouth custom shaped for ease of filling. Very heavy or sticky web-structured materials such as web laminates can be used because the material does not travel over sharp edges at the feed tube's shoulder. Because no seals are made near the product flow, the filling funnel will not develop hot spots to restrict the flow of product, especially when handling products such as frozen foods or grated cheese. A gas flushing system is optionally available for both the main pouch and zipper areas. Product drop from the feed system to the pouch is reduced by 3 to 5 feet. No forming tube required. No seals are made near the product floor. Filling tunnel cannot restrict flow because of hot spots. This is of particular importance when handling cheese or frozen products. No requirement for separate forming tubes for each size change as compared to vertical packaging equipment, a significant savings. Automatic conveyor transfer and/or cartoning available as a permanent or roll-up system. L-80 is synchronized to a scale or to an intermittent feeding system. Automatic adjustments to feeding cycle assure maximum running speed. Product being packaged falls only on the bottom fold, closed zipper - never on a fresh seal. Product being packaged can be folded and inserted, mandrel fed or delivered free-flowing. Product can be manually fed from infeed conveyors or tote boxes. Bad mouth is precisely opened from the flat just before filling and is returned to the flat after filling. Finally top seal passes through two full machine cycles for set-up and cooling prior to discharge. Total weight of filled bad is carried by a support conveyor eliminating any stress on the web or seals. L-80 accepts a full range of laminated materials, foils, polyesters and nylons to name a few. Straight line package forming from side seal, open, fill, close and top seal in a single cycle. Machine speed not affected when applying zipper closure. Up to 80 filled packages per minute - two packages per cycle with a 1.5 second cycle. Package size changes can be quickly made utilizing a minimum of hand tools.
