Characteristic for this roasting system is its balance between convection and conduction: About 70 percent of coffee bean heating takes place via the hot air stream and 30 percent via the beans contact with the heated external roasting drum wall and baffles.
Due to its relatively long roasting times, this batch roaster features a long gentle roast that allows the development of complex aromas.
The roasting drum has the shape of a horizontal cylinder which is why it is also called a roasting cylinder. Loading and emptying takes place from the front. Hot air passes through and circulates
around the revolving drum. Special paddles inside the roasting drum move the coffee against the hot air stream.
