The equipment is very simple to run and is automated for minimal attention in operation and maintainence. Product throughput possible is 100 , 200, 400 Kg/hour. The production line consists of a Paddle mixer to mix the soy meal and water, a single screw extruder to cook and shape the ingredients, pneumatic conveyor to transport the wet product from extruder to the dryer, multi deck dryer and a cooling belt to cool the product before final packing of product.
Soy meal which is derived from defatted soy beans, is mixed with proper amount of water and the hydrated mix is then fed to the screw extruder, which pre-cooks the ingredients at high shear and temperature to hold the superheated water with the material, due to the high pressure present inside the extruder, but as the product emerges out of many die holes, it is exposed to near atmospheric pressure, and the superheated water, or steam, rapidly escapes out of the product. The product comes out as expanded ball, produced by automatic cutter at die, which is light weight and much expanded than the die hole size. The product still has excess moisture in it and is dried on suitable dryer to remove the excess moisture, for safe packing of the soy meal product.
