PE 100 materials were developed which paved the way for the production of large-bore pipes with thick walls. This has given the use of large-bore pressure pipes from PE 100 a tremendous boost with the consequence of a rocketing demand for extrusion systems for such applications. Cincinnati Extrusion has reacted upon these market requirements and has, over the past few years, become the most important supplier of large-bore pipe lines.

High output of small-sized productsis achieved best by means of dual extrusion. Also, there are a number of applications where dual extrusion commnends itself for process engineering reasons. The iris series of pipe heads cna be used advantageously also for dual extrusion.

Dual Extrusion

The upward trend fo coextrusion continues and it cna be expected that coextruded pipes will play oan outstanding role in the pipe programmes of the future. Coextrusion allows for dimensions of the pipe products that are optimal for the particular application. Pipe property profiles can be realized that are out of the reach of mono-extrusion. Apart from the many new applications made passible by coextrusion, it is the cost-saving effects that contribute most to the continuing advance of coextrusion in the pipe sector.

Coextrusion

The new pipe heads of the iris series feature flow channels that were adapted to cope optimally with a number of new developments in te field of thermoplastic materials. Especially the introductino nof rather viscous PE 100 materials and the properties of the new PP type for pipe producitno had called for re-designed flow cahnnels.
