Syntac is a syntactic composite material specially designed for fabricating thermoforming plug assists.Syntac combines in one material all the properties desirable in a plug assist and avoids the various problems associated with aluminum, wood, felt or plastic.Syntac - with its outstanding thermal resistance - does not draw heat from the sheet. As a result, sheet chilling is reduced, eliminating the sticking, fouling and mark-off which are such major causes of waste and downtime in the thermoforming industry.This unique material is composed of a mixture of epoxy resin and microscopic hollow glass spheres. The spheres form discrete air cells to provide low thermal conductivity. These spheres also impart enormous strength to the epoxy matrix.Syntactic refers to the controlled distribution of the spheres, resulting in uniform properties.Plugs of Syntac syntactic can be used in a wide variety of applications, including components for packaging, aerospace, automotive, appliances and luggage.Syntac tooling is suitable for in-line, sheet fed or rotary fed operations.
