At Cape Canaveral, static electricity is an extreme hazard because of the volatile fuels present, and because of the highly sensitive electronics placed aboard Space Shuttles. For this specific
application, Stern+Stern developed ChemStat 919 to be inherently flame retardant, static dissipative, and cleanroom compatible. It was through the development of ChemStat 919 that the effectiveness
of the now-patented conductive grid was discovered with NASA. ChemStat 919 is composed of 100% multifilament Nomex? fiber, an inherently flame retardant non-oxidant. Its patented* conductive grid
is similar in design and performance to that of the ChemStat 900 Plus Series. Not only is ChemStat 919 exclusively specified by NASA for its refueling and reloading operations, but it is also the
only inherently flame retardant cleanroom fabric available for those commercial facilities concerned about explosive or high heat environments. Variations on the ChemStat 919 design are approved by
NASA for the International Space Station and for Arc Flash Protection in accordance with OSHA regulation 1910.269 and NFPA 70E. *US Patent #4,606,968
