Takayuki Ohira has been dreaming of creating a planetarium that can duplicate the ultrafine starlit sky since his childhood. The starlit sky featured in his planetarium must be comparable with the
actual starlit sky. He has been personally chasing his dream for twenty years, and finally after manufacturing 3 prototypes named ASTROLINER, he has developed a planetarium named MEGASTAR .
MEGASTAR is a lens projection type planetarium that can project more than 1.7 million stars between the first and 11.5th magnitude. It can completely duplicate the Milky Way as a stellar group. It
is a super planetarium. Its capability is 50 times greater than general planetariums since they can duplicate only 30 thousand stars up to 7th magnitude. Moreover, MEGASTAR is mobile since its main
body is only 30 kg in weight. In 1998, Takayuki Ohira presented MEGASTAR at the International Planetarium Society (IPS) Conference in London. He has manufactured only one copy of MEGASTAR called
MEGASTAR-1, and currently he has no plans to sell it.It is available only for lease or rental.
