The low molecular mass oxidation products from Step One will be bio-assimilated gradually in soil or bio-active composting environment. This step is called Biodegradation or Mineralization.
Step Two:
The oxidative reaction leads to the production of low molecular mass oxidation products such as carboxylic acids.
The degradable plastics begin to degrade once they are disposed in the natural environment (sun light, heat and oxygen) after completion of their life time as plastic products. This step is called Oxidative Degradation.
Step One:
Degradation Steps of Degradable Plastics
Oxo-Biodegardable Plastics are plastic materials that undergo a two-step degradation, initially by an oxidative process that is promoted by the inclusion of catalytic additives and subsequently by biodegradation.
