Less than 10km west of Madaba, Mount Nebohas enormous significance to the Christian religion. It is a fascinating place;according to the Bible it is the same place where Moses was buried. On thepresumed site where he was buried, a monastery was built, and just outside thebuilding, there is an incredible Serpentine Cross, which represents Mosesbronze serpent that was taken in the desert, and the cross represents Jesuswhen crucified. The little remains of churches, one of them The Chapel of theVirgin (Theotokos, Mother of God), have wonderful mosaics. One of them wassigned by the craftsmen Soelos, Kaiomos, and Elijah.
These mosaics depict monastic pastime, hunters, and an assortment of animals.

Mount Nebo

Located at the head of a lush valley just east of Jordan River, the baptismsite is called in Arabic Al Maghtas, and it is said that John the Baptist,after Jesus baptism, spent 40 days of fasting, praying, and resistance fromSatans temptation, in the wilderness east of Jordan River.

The Biblerecords that John the Baptist, who baptized Jesus Christ, lived, preached, andbaptized in the village of Bethany, on the other side of the Jordan (John1:28).

Each bottle of Holy Water is certifiedby the Stamp issued by the Royal Commission for Baptism Site in conjunctionwith the Orthodox Patriarchate and the Catholic Church of Jordan.
