The raw materials have been carefully chosen to ensure that Agowas vegetable lamp oil eliminates the risk of death due to chemical lung inflammation, in the event that a young child consumes some of the oil. Oral consumption of even small amounts of paraffin-based lamp oil can be fatal for children less than three years of age. This is one of the reasons why the EU is introducing more stringent regulations governing paraffin-based lamp oils from next year. Under the new regulations, paraffin-based lamp oil may only be sold in black packaging containing a maximum of one litre, and bearing the following warning:
