The hair will be tied into small bundles as per the size i.e., from 7 to 24. The whole process of procurement, cleaning, packing and shipping takes 30 to 45 days. The activity is labour oriented, providing employment nearly to 500 to 600 people on hourly and daily wage and above 250 people on regular wage basis. The ratio of the sizes and prices will vary according to lengths.
 
PROCUREMENT OF RAW MATERIAL
Usually, the hair is dropped to the floor while combing. The fallen hair is swept to a corner to be disposed off. Later on the scrap collectors collect the hair from the doorsteps of residents or shops. In villages, small hawkers barter balloons, hairpins, small toys etc., in return to the fallen and cut hair from small households. Collection depends upon the ability of the hawker. Hawkers sell this hair to the waste/scrap merchants who in turn sells it whole sale traders. Wholesale traders sells this to processors/exporters. With a margin of 10% it changes hands and ultimately will reach the exporter. The exporter purchases hair from traders and the cycle of supplies are regular through out the year.

The workers will segregate the raw hair with hands and then comb the hair. Later they soak the hair in soap water-Caustic Soda/ Water solutions for a period of 10 hours and then wash the hair in running water. Later it is dried in natural sunlight. Then it will be hawked and graded as per the size and cut on both sides to arrive to an even size. This is called as DOUBLE DRAWN HAIR.
