Rice Bran Oil

Rice Bran Oil (RBO) is an unique edible oil produced from rice bran which is a by-product of the Rice Milling Industry. The paddy that comes from the fields has a hard outer covering called the Husk or the Hull. During the production of rice from paddy, this husk is removed from the paddy through the dehusking process. The husk so produced is used as a fuel for generating steam in the boilers. The rice which we get after removal of the husk is brown in colour because of the oily layer on it. In the good olden days when modern rice milling was not there, we all used to consume the brown rice only. Even these days also consumption of the brown rice is strongly recommended because of the nutritious oil and other nutrients present in the outer brown layer of the brown rice. In the modern rice milling, this oily layer from the brown rice is removed through the polishing process to get the white rice. The oily layer which is removed in this process in the powder form is known as rice bran which is a source of rice bran oil. The crude rice bran oil is extracted from the rice bran through the solvent extraction process using food-grade hexane as a solvent. The crude rice bran oil then undergoes a refining process to obtain the Refined Rice Bran Oil fit for human consumption.
