The Bulgarian Rose oil is a fine fluid liquid, or heterogenous mass below 23 degr. Celsium. Its colour is yellow to yellow-green. It has marvellous, warm, floral aroma, specifically dense and fine,
with faint peppery and honey notes, unique in its beautifull smell and unrepeatable in its richness of tones and scents.
As the world's most valuable essential oil, the Bulgarian Rose oil is an example of standard and quality by the common consent of the world perfumery professionals.
The average quality of the Bulgarian Rose oil contains more than 250 components, but the most important are its properties according to the Bulgarian State Standard (BSS) Nr 653-96:
A. Physico-chemical properties and macrocompounds:
- Appearance - fluid, transparent liquid above congealing point
- Colour - yellow
- Odour - typical of Bulgarian Rose oil
- Specific gravity (density) at 30 degrees Celsium - 0,848 to 0,861
- Refractive index at 25 degr. Celsium - 1,453 to 1,464
- Acid number (value) - 0,8 to 3,7
- Ester number (value) - 7,3 to 17,1
- Acetyl value (ester number after acetylization) - 202,6 to 244,8
B. Content of typical components (macrocompounds), %(by Gas-Chromatography):
- citronelol - 17 to 45
- geraniol - 12 to 27
- nerol - 5 to 16
