The oil is an excellent antioxidant anti dandruff, anti bacterial and anti fungal as well. Hence, it is used in a number of hair care and skin products.       

Due to its low boiling and fresh smelling odour it has got a good effect as a masking agent particularly for phenolic and tar like odours. The terpenless rosemary oil is used in alcoholic perfumery. The rosemary oils blends well with lavender, citronella, labdanumolibanum, cedarwood oils and finds its application in making lotions as well.

The odour is strong freah herbaceous, balsamic in nature. The oil is used for fine fragrances and also for fragrances for soap & cosmetic products and room freshener. It is used in making colognes, lavender water, fougeres, pine needle fragrances, oriental perfumes, in room deodorants house hold spray as insecticide, disinfectants, etc. This is also used in fragrances for agarbatti and dhoopbatti and also for low cost detergents. The oil is very goos when a herbal note is desired in a fragrance.

USED OF ROSEMARY OIL ;-

Essential oil of Rosemary is obtained by steam distillation of leaves and twigs, which are hsade dried before distillation of essential oil. Distillation takes 3-4 hours for full recovery of oil.

DISTILLATION :-

Rosemary is cultivated in large scale in Spain, Italy, France, Algeria and Portugal. Morocco is leading producer of Rosemary oil in  the world and world production is about 75-100 tonnes per year. It thrives well at elevation of 1000-1500 meter above sea leval. The crop can also be cultivated in lower reaches of Himalayan States of Jammu and Kashmir and hills of Uttarakhand, Himanchal Pradesh, northern hills of West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh.

Rosemary is botanically known as Rosmarinus officinalis is extensive used in food, and fragrance industries. The essential oil of rosemary is mainly used in the production of soaps, detergents, freshener sprays, as an antioxidant to improve stability of foods and as a fixative and blends well with several other essential oil. The oil has anti-malarial and insecticidal properties. It can be effectively used as mosquito repellent (killer as it can kill about 90 to 100 percent of adult mosquitoes and larvae. Rosemary oil is also used as vascular smooth muscle relaxant. Flavouring agent in edibles and in distilled water for eyewash. The dried leaves of rosemary find use in culinary items.
