The loofahs used in the soaps grow wild off the tender clinging vines of the Luffa aegyptiaca, in the Lowveld and the Zambezi valley. They are hand-picked by villagers who live in these remote
areas and are delivered from as far as 500kms by various modes of transport.
The loofahs are sun dried, peeled, washed partly, de-seeded and dried again. Hand selection is required to select the ideal size to fit the mould. The soap is then carefully poured over the loofah
to avoid air bubbles, left to set, removed from the mould, individually, trimmed, and lastly, polished by hand.
Earthworks Sugar Cubes come with a beautiful hand-crafted
mini hippo.
Each hand-made Loofah soap; from the energizing Savannah Aloe, to the intoxicating Zambezi Wild Berry will gently exfoliate the skin, revealing a supple smooth and invigorated new layer. Reminisce
with our Rose Oil and Apricot, a fragrance of a bygone era. Give way to the sensuality of the heady aromas of our Marula and Jojoba Oil. Experience the subtle, healing powers of our Baobab and Tea
Tree Oil and revel in the cool pleasure of the Zambezi Rain Forest.
Each individually hand crafted soap is gently poured as a pure glycerin base into a fibrous loofah, the large cylindrical fruit of the Luffa aegyptiaca, which is a robust and totally natural
exfoliating aid. They are enhanced with extracts of African plant oils and are environmentally friendly. None of these products are tested on animals.
The actual development and design of these products took 18 months and included the services of a well known French nose that spent many months in Zimbabwe, developing the fragrances that best
portray the imagery of the African Wilderness.
