ATHEROSCLEROSIS
Atherosclerosis appears to be linked to oxidative damage to thevessel wall. Increased lipid peroxides, decreased GSH peroxidase andprostacyclin (PGI2) have been documented in human and animalatherosclerotic arteries.

In various liver diseases (fatty liver, acute and chronic hepatitis,cirrhosis, etc.), a four-to-eight-fold decrease in GSH was observed.The investigators postulated that low GSH contributed to liver injury.Pre-treatment with GSH offered significant protection in these clinicaltrials.LUNG DISEASEGSH deficiencies have been documented in a number of pulmonarydiseases, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, asthma,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc. When GSH levels werebrought up to normal, patients improved significantly.
