Laminaria digitata belongs to the family of brown algae. The constituents are calcium, potassium, iodine, mannitol, as well as fat, protein, carbohydrates and vitamins E, C, B12, B6, B3, B, A . The dried Laminaria digitata seaweed contains less than 1% lipids, and 65% or less of its content is represented by sugars, represented by the following: Mannitol (12-15%) -Soluble condensed glucosides (15-40%) and particularly Fucoidine. The alginic acid or algin present in Laminaria has thickening and emulsifying properties, and these are also very useful in cosmetic science, and antibacterial properties have also been attributed to this seaweed.

Freeze-drying also enables a very gentle preservation of highly sensitive ingredients by removing practically all moisture from the substance, including the basis for existence of possible germs of fungi. That is why this technical procedure is frequently used in the pharmaceutical field, e.g. for the preservation of substances as sensitive as vaccines. The freeze-drying of our products means that we can completely eliminate the addition of preservatives.

The algae raw materials used in Matrigel are extracted from purified brown algae (Laminaria). These brown algae are found along the rocky coasts of the North Atlantic, e.g. in North France.  A further component of Matrigel is phytosqualane. Squalane is a natural component of lipid in human skin. This nature-identical component helps particularly dry and sensitive skins to maintain the skins moisture content.
