How does Pool SOS work?
Pool SOS is a light-weight, unsinkable device that floats on the surface of the water. The screw in the middle allows you to adjust the weight sensitivity of the unit and the normal setting is for
a weight of 5.6 kg. When water comes into contact with the screw the Pool SOS unit sends out a high frequency signal letting you know that something has fallen into the water
What guarantee does Pool SOS come with?
Pool SOS has a one year guarantee on manufacturers default.
Does Pool SOS need to be installed?
No it is very simple to use. All you need to do is place a battery in the relevant compartment, seal it and place it on the surface of the water.
How long does the battery last?
ONLY use high quality 9v ALKALINE BATTERIES. The Pool SOS alarm was designed for the weight of alkaline batteries. If you use another kind of battery or a rechargeable battery, the alarm may not be
properly balanced. By doing this the battery should last at least 6 months. Duracell is recommended. It is advisable to check the battery weekly to ensure that it is still fully charged. Do not
compromise. If the battery is getting low change it immediately.
How loud is the Pool SOS signal?
It sends out a high pitched, 85 decibel warning signal which can be heard up to 40metres from the pool.
Does a Creepy Crawly interfere with Pool SOS?
No it does not, if the sensor is set too low it may trigger the alarm. Just adjust the screw up to avoid this from happening.
Can you use Pool SOS with a pool net?
Yes you can, providing the net does not touch the unit. Securing the unit to the side of the pool with the cord provided also ensures that your Pool SOS unit remains exactly where you place it.
Where can Pool SOS be used?
It can be used in a swimming pool, pond, Jacuzzi or in fact, any body of water that is not turbulent.
How does Pool SOS compare with other safety devices?
Pool Fences can easily be left open by accident and it's amazing how quickly little fingers learn how to negotiate the latches. Pool nets on the other hand have to be removed before the pool can be
used, and are difficult to replace. Although both of these are of value as preventative measures, their greatest weakness lies in their reliance on humans. Also, should a disaster occur with these
devices, you are left to discover it when it could be too late. The difference with Pool SOS is that you know immediately if there is a problem and have the advantage of critical extra minutes. For
your added peace of mind, Pool SOS can also be used in conjunction with either or both of the alternate devices mentioned.
Please remember that this is a child's life. No safety device or strategy can or should ever be used to replace proper adult supervision.
What if the incidence of false alarms with the Pool SOS unit?
In calm water the adjusting screw should be set to 5mm from the surface of the water. In choppy water (should the wind come up) adjust the sensitivity of the alarm by unscrewing the adjusting screw
away from the surface of the water, making it less sensitive. By following these simple instructions you will eliminate any annoying and undermining false alarms. Your Pool SOS is designed to work
in normal weather conditions and will be less effective in winds in excess of 70 KMH or very heavy rainfall.
Does Pool SOS have any endorsements?
Definitely. Pool SOS has been endorsed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in America and is in fact the only surface pool alarm that has been endorsed by the U.S. CPSC.
Does Pool SOS have a proven track-record?
Pool SOS is manufactured in Canada and has been around for more than 10 years. It is exported to more that 18 countries in America and Europe and has now finally reached the shores of South Africa.
Thousands of units are sold each month.
How easy is it for Pool SOS to be damaged?
The Pool SOS's casing is finished in an ivory ABS plastic, suitable for outdoor or indoor use, thereby preventing any damage from UV rays or the elements. The transmitter is housed in the casing
preventing it from damage. However it is advisable to not submerge the unit in water as this can affect the workings of the transmitter. Should the unit get wet allow it to dry out for 24 hours
(longer if humidity is present) and all should be back to normal.
