Three varieties of Basmati rice are recognized and demanded at a global level.
Super Kernel basmati with its extra long grain is the king of Basmati and has a growing demanded and is recognized as the best rice in the world.
PK-385 is shortly slightly shorter Basmati known for its chalky belly and is in a class of its own. Also known for its length, its fine texture and aroma make it the most popular variety of Basmati
variety of Basmati. After cooking the length is a bit shorter than Super Kernel Basmati.
PK-198 or D98 is also a variety of Basmati rice, sometimes referred to as sugdasi. Its known for its aroma but has larger starch content than the other varieties of rice. It is however the most
economical and most aromatic of the Basmati.
KS282 also known as DR is grown in lower Sindh. It looks very similar to US long grain, white rice because it has a completely translucent grain. It is the preferred choice of slightly more
discerning eaters of the irri-6 due to its physical appearance.
