Well, that's my story. I hope you don't have to go through what we did. If you buy one of our motorized bicycles, you won't have to. If you buy one of our motorized bicycle kits, you won't have half the problems we encountered. plus we going to let you know something.. a person a other day call my cell phone and told me if i am trying to get off people money that he was other site that is cheap thats not true we only win $50.00 dollars only on the labor to install it so if you go to other site and you buy a motor kit the price of a 66/80cc is 149.00 plus shipping and taxes and there price is around $250.00 dollars for each we sell it for the same price because it costs $250 dollar so we only win $50.00 dollar only on the labor so thats around $300.00 dollars but if you buy the bike and the motor ready to go is only $450-$500 dollars so we try to be the best alot of website will take 7 days to ship the item to you. we dont chrage shipping and we are much faster only 2-3 days and if you live around or 100 miles we will go in person and could be only one day or call us if you like to come see the motorbikes so try to math our price to other site? plus we got light install ready to go without any worrys getting pull over by the law they only ask to have lights on them on the night...but you dont need no Tags. license, or nothing just your bike and thats it!!!
I know of at least 3 people who wish this option was available to them when my dad bought his kit! Looking back on it, I would have gladly paid $100 just for the instructions we have now!
For around 550 bucks (depending on bike), you can get a Generation 2, EPA Certified engine kit that is way better than what we had to start with. You get the bike, engine kit, and the benefit of knowing you didn't have to spend 3 or 4 days installing a kit that said you can do it in 6 - 8 hours.
So here I am to give it to you.
I know there are a lot of people who want a 150 MPG, 20 - 25 MPH, motorized bicycle and want it already assembled and ready to go. I know there are a lot of people who bought the same kind of kit that we got, and WISH somebody else would have installed it for them.
Then it hits me, who would want to go through what my dad, my brother, and I just went through to get this thing installed? Are you nuts? The kit says 6-8 hours. B.S. The average person who thinks he's a shade tree mechanic won't even get the sprocket installed on the wheel in 6 hours (on 1st install).
As soon as I get back from the test ride, I'm thinking how cool this motorized bike is. I start thinking about the 150 mpg, the fact that you don't need a license, and just how much fun this thing is. I'm thinking "who wouldn't want one of these"?
This is where Sosa's Motor Bike is born.
Amazingly, I made it around the block without it falling apart.
About 5 seconds later, I'm going about half speed, and I realize I'm not wearing a helmet and that the odds of something NOT going wrong on this thing was astronomical! I slowed down and started looking at the chain and at everything else on the bike to see what was going to break or fall off!
What a BLAST. This is one of the greatest thrills...
I was ear to ear GRIN!
I replaced the wheel, found a better way to attach the tensioner, put gas in it, and wouldn't you know it, the darn thing started.
Chain tightened, tensioner went into the spokes. Now I have a wheel with two broken spokes.
First, I rode it around my dads driveway without turning over the engine. I knew the chain tensioner was undoubtedly going to be a problem. I was going walking speed and popped the clutch to see how good it would hold up. :-(
Two days later (including a bunch of talking and admiring the bike) I was ready to put gas in it and give it a test ride. Not.
The bike needed the muffler, chain, chain guard, chain tensioner, and kill switch installed, and the front motor mount bolted on somehow. No Problem...
I came over to my dad's house, and in the living room there was a bike with an engine on it. Long story short, he asks me to finish putting it together.
This is where I come in.
My dad had turned it over to my brother by the end of the second day. By the end of the third day, my brothers patience was long gone. He was about ready to blow a gasket! He had plenty of better things to be doing then trying to figure out how to put a lawnmower engine on a beach cruiser!
By the end of the third day, they had the engine installed (except the front motor mount wasn't attached and the muffler wasn't attached either). Basically, they had the sprocket, gas tank, throttle, handle grips, and clutch lever installed.
Part of the problem was the instructions. I have never seen such ridiculous instructions in my life. In one sentence it says "connect the black wire of the kill switch to the WHITE wire coming out of the engine." Two sentences later, it says "connect the black wire of the kill switch to the BLUE wire coming out of the engine." Come on! Which is it? The WHITE or the BLUE? It's got to be one or the other. Make up your mind.
You have to understand that my brother and my dad are both somewhat mechanically inclined. I'm not saying they are mechanics, but they both pulled an engine out of a Chevy Blazer and installed a new one. (Yes it ran afterward.) You would think that two people who can R&R an engine in a Blazer would have no problem with installing a little 48cc engine kit to a beach cruiser!
By the end of the day, they had a "plan" of what to do, but they really didn't have anything installed.
They encountered one set back after another. As soon as they found a solution to one problem, that led to another problem, which in turn, led to another problem, and so on...
He tried to install the engine, but the engine mounts wouldn't fit. The bottom bar of the bike was too big. Then as he set the engine in it's place, he lined up the muffler and noticed it wasn't going to fit. My dad fiddled around with the sprocket. Of course it wasn't going to go on either. The center hole was too small in diameter to fit over the dust cap on the hub.
Of course... after 1 hour, he didn't even have the engine attached to the bike yet (that's the first thing he tried to install).
Alex said (and I swear these are the exact words), "This is a joke, I'll have this together in a half hour, maybe an hour tops!" (Famous last words...)
Now to put the two together. He asked my brother Alex to help him assemble it. , said no problem. He took everything out of the box and looked at the parts.
Perfect.
My dad saw one of these motorized bikes and he thought it was one of the coolest things that he had seen in quite a while. He didn't get one right away, but a few months later, he came across a motor kit that installs on a bicycle. He couldn't resist, he just had to have it! So about a week later, he got his engine kit in the mail.
Our Story
I get asked all the time... How did you start selling motorized bicycles? So, here's my story (and I'm sticking to it).
