The Korg M3-61 61 semi-weighted synth action keys workstation includes a number of innovations found in the Korg Oasys including EDS Enhanced Definition Synthesis sound generator derived from the Oasys HD-1 engine, second-generation Karma functionality, a new concept of "virtualized hardware" that allows an even closer integration of the M3-61 with DAW systems, Drum Tracks which provide a instant groove to play along with, and the new "Korg Komponent System" concept that facilitates more flexible system construction.

The M3-61 ships loaded with 512 programs and space for 1,664 users sounds (13 banks plus GM). All sound locations are editable. 32-drum kits are providen with space for a total of 144. 384 preloaded 16-part combinations with room for a total of 1,792. All Programs and Combinations are divided by category and subcategory makeing it easy to organize and find sounds.

The Karma, the realtime music generation system, functionality from Oasys is included in the Korg M3-61 allowing the playing of natural instrument gestures such as strumming, fingerpicking, harp glissados. Karma Program Mode provides one Generated Effect, in Combi and Sequencer modes four Karma Modules are simultaneously available. Hardware control is provided by 8-sliders, 8-switches,and 8-scenes.

Taking advantage of the Korg M3-61 256MB of PCM source material, the EDS Enhanced Definition System is based on a chip designed from the flagship Oasys HD-1 engine. 1,606 drum samples, 1028 multi-samples, dual oscillators, 4 level velocity switching / crossfading / layering and stereo sampling provide an enormour range of detailed, expressive high-quality sounds. Four filter types are available: high-pass, low-pass, band-pass, and band-rejects. The filter section contains two resonant filters per oscillator, configurable in series or parallel. The effects section contains 170 effects types including compressors, limiters, amp models and speaker simulations based on Korg's REMS modelling technology. Five insert effects, two master effects, and one total effect are possible.

A Drum Track function adds a groove to each played sound on the M3-61, selected from over 500 patterns. Drum Tracks are driven from MIDI data and stored in a pattern format, so patterns can be created in sequencer mode by recording or importing from SMF data or songs. Karma data can be converted as MIDI events, or import sample loops.

Virtualized Hardware allows the Korg M3-61 to be connected to a Mac or PC via USB so settings and sounds can be edited. The Editor runs as a VST, AU, or RTAS plug-in.

The high-resolution sequencer central to the M3-61 song production capability is a 16-track design holding up to 128 songs and 210,000 notes. Timing resolution of 480 PPQ details your proformance. EQ is provided by 3-band EQ per track.

The Korg M3-61 features 2-analogue and 2-S/PDIF inputs, main 2-channel output (L/MONO, R), 4-independent outputs and 2-channel 24-bit optical S/PDIF digital output. Two USB 2.0 connectors are provided: type-B USB connector to connect the M3-61 to your computer as a MIDI interface, and dual type-A connectors for connecting external storage media.
