Strings

Only the finest grade of steel can be acceptable for producing treble strings. Treble wires come sized in whole and half gauge. Makers of cheaper pianos will save building costs by stringing their instruments with whole gauge wires. Rawlins & Co. pianos use strings half-gauged number twenty-two through twelve and one-half.

Rawlins & Co. pianos utilize only pure copper wrapped strings in their construction. Bass and tenor strings will vibrate richly and resonantly for generations.

Bass and tenor strings must be wrapped with copper to give them weight. Without that weight the strings, of necessity, would be longer than any piano could accommodate. Makers of cheaper, lower grade pianos will often use bass strings wrapped with copper plated steel wire. Steel wrapped strings will look fine when new. Soon after the piano arrives in the customers home the wrapping begins to corrode and the strings must be replaced.
